Can Trump Really Win? RNC Gave Trump’s Son ‘Grim’ Campaign Outlook

According to a new report, the Republican National Committee (RNC) met with Donald Trump’s son to give a “grim prognosis” about his father’s presidential chances earlier this week, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Officials went over swing states one by one with Eric Trump on Monday, showing that his father was lagging behind other Republicans in polls and warning that he lacks a path to the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency without a major shake-up, the report said.

The Times added that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), a close Donald Trump ally, has lobbied repeatedly for Trump to make changes to his campaign. Christie reportedly pressed Trump to make his surprise trip to Mexico on Wednesday.

Trump visited Mexico City, meeting privately with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and sharing the stage with him at a joint press conference.

Trump touted their “shared objective” of ending illegal immigration between the U.S. and Mexico.

Later Wednesday, Trump gave a major immigration address in Phoenix, Ariz., laying out a 10-point hard-line plan to stop illegal immigration.

Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, also appointed a new campaign manager and chief executive last month amid sliding poll numbers.

The 2016 race has tightened in recent days, with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton leading Trump by about 5 points nationally in a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
