U.S. Officials Warn Of Russian Conspiracy To Rig The 2016 Election

U.S. officials are warning that Russian hackers could try to sway the presidential election, but not necessarily by breaching the voting system. According to these officials – who spoke with Reuters under condition of anonymity – our voting system is so massive, spread out, and “antiquated” that hackers wouldn’t be able to make much of a difference.

However, where these hackers could do some damage is by faking evidence of voter fraud and posting these fraudulent documents on the internet for the purpose of making voters think voter fraud is real:

U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials are warning that hackers with ties to Russia’s intelligence services could try to undermine the credibility of the presidential election by posting documents online purporting to show evidence of voter fraud.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said however, that the U.S. election system is so large, diffuse and antiquated that hackers would not be able to change the outcome of the Nov. 8 election.

But hackers could post documents, some of which might be falsified, that are designed to create public perceptions of widespread voter fraud, the officials said.

They said that they did not have specific evidence of such a plan, but state and local election authorities had been warned to be vigilant for hacking attempts.

“Trump does not even know he is being manipulated,” said Michael Morell, a former deputy CIA director who has endorsed Clinton. “Trump is an unwitting agent of Putin.”

See what they’re doing here?

We all know how conservatives – and especially Donald Trump – are called “conspiracy theorists” for raising concerns about a “rigged election” as a result of widespread voter fraud.

Donald Trump recently stated that he would accept the results of the general election as long as he’s the winner. He said he reserves the right to legally challenge the outcome in the case of a “questionable result.”

Now, the media’s narrative appears to be that the very evidence of voter fraud itself could be a conspiracy on Russia’s part to make Americans think that voter fraud is rampant. There’s no evidence of this secret Russian plot of course. Just like liberals claim conservatives have no evidence of voter fraud.

Now, when we do offer evidence, what are liberals and the media going to say? “It’s a conspiracy on Russia’s part to rig the election by making gullible conservatives like you believe that voter fraud is real! So, obviously your ‘evidence’ is fake.” It’s a conspiracy theory of a conspiracy theory. It’s just that when the media is the one pushing the conspiracy theory, it gets promoted to “fact.”

For whatever reason, liberals think talk of a “rigged election” and voter fraud is ridiculous. (Well, unless Trump wins and they can blame Russia for rigging the election…that conspiracy theory is allowed.) Do they not remember Al Gore contesting the 2000 election results, or Hillary Clinton talking about how George W. was “selected, not elected?”

Is election fraud only a legitimate issue when Democrats are the ones who stand to lose as a result? If a Republican stands to lose, then those same concerns about fraud are relegated to the same part of the internet that talks about the moon-landing being a hoax.
